Moving through the Rock Cycle
We acted out the rock cycle, moving around the classroom from one place to another!
Making our own rocks...
Today in class we made our own igneous and metamorphic rocks.
First we heated our "rocks" to 700 degrees Celsius to the same temperature as magma. We then watched Mrs B explode lava out of a volcano, and we watched the lava cool down to make rocks.
We made observations as the lava cooled and talked about the different types of rocks that could be formed.
Next we made sedimentary rocks. We talked about erosion, weathering, deposition, compaction and cementation!
Our sedimentary rocks had some earth (dirt), plant material, animal material, sediments like sand and small rocks in them.

"Rock"ing out
We have been learning about different types of rocks and how the rock cycle works.
We have been bringing lots of rocks and minerals to school to explore.

Term 1: BIG DAY OUT
pushing ourselves to the limit!
CHALLENGING OURSELVES TO SOLVE PROBLEMS AND WORK TOGETHER
Some strange and unsual plants crash landed into our school. To survive we had to reach fruit growing on trees just out of reach, without being stung by the plants. Luckily the plants didn't grow bigger than 12 cm high.
Task: build a pair of stilts to navigate a 6m course as fast as possible to grab a piece of fruit (tennis ball).

How did we go?
Well... unfortunately we were unable to test our designs today. We are working on our listening and time management skills so that in the future we will be able to complete set tasks. We are also working on building our cooperative skills so that everyone in our groups ideas are valued and appreciated.

We are learning to work together to answer questions and inquire about our world.
