It was cool looking at all the different types of rock. I learnt that there was 11 people in the hut. Those 11 people had to make a hole, and go down it without a harness or anything. One person had a hammer and one person had a metal pole. One person would hit the pole to make a hole. They put dynamite in the hole so that they could blow up the rock. That was a lot faster than using a shovel and pick axe. After a day of work at the Quarry they would get really cut hands so they had to put mutton on there hands like soap. Mutton fat is the fat that comes off a lamb. At the had they only had a only enough water a day that they had to share a bath. They played a game of poker. The person that won the poker game got to have the first bath. The person that got the last bath, got hair, dirt and it was really cold.
I also learnt that the Maori believed that a god had a rake and he made the land and all the rivers and lakes. When the volcanoes first eruption, it changed the land and made it go up and down. Then the second volcano erupted it did the same thing, but it wasn’t as bad as the first one. Over time the eruptions change, they got weaker and weaker, until there were none. Once the land was formed, the dirt came off the hills and formed Christchurch. When we got chose whether we wanted to go to the Korean or Japanese Garden. We picked the Japanese. At the Japanese garden there were lots of plants and the fences were made in a Japanese style. There was this weird sort of bath and it used to have a little boat that floated in it, but it got lost. Then we saw a Japanese bridge. I learnt that the Japanese bridge used to have planks that if people can to fight them they could chuck the planks off them and just shoot them. They would be far away. When we went through the Korean garden we saw this light. I think it used to be outside on of the castles. They could light a candle inside it so they could see. I think at the Quarry it was used a s bird house. It was made with a special type of stone. Then we went to the Korean totem poles. I learnt that the korean totem poles were used to scare the people who fought against Korea away. It sort of looked like they had a type of knife through their head. By Thomas
